Books About Colors

We are focusing on colors this week, exploring primary colors and color-mixing. We found these great picture books at our local library using a SUBJECT search for “Colors — juvenile fiction.” Using these search terms in a subject search will help you find children’s fiction about colors instead of everything in the collection that mentions the word “colors.”

The books I’ve selected feature colors in the context of different cultures and color identity. All of the books give you more to talk with your child about than just the colors in the book.

  • Are Your Stars Like My Stars? by Leslie Helakoski
  • Festival of Colors by Kabir and Surishtha Sehgal
  • Green is a Chile Pepper by Roseanne Greenfield Thong
  • Green on Green by Dianne White
  • Lemons are not Red by Laura Vaccaro Seeger
  • Mixed: A Colorful Story by Arree Chung
